This to say I am very grateful to you for your deep, touching romans. The first one I read was The rock of Tanios, Tanios's gentle soul moved me into tears several times and I try to inspire myself to his figure in my everyday life. After I read almost all of your titles.
in particular, have you ever thought about publishing a big, illustrated edition of The Crusadades through the arabs eyes? I think it could be really an hard work, but it worths, maybe with the help of an illuminated Mecenate(...maybe the Aga khan or a Saudi Prince or Princess...:)! For example, I would like so much to know what kind of face could that Renaud/Arnat had...
I am Ombretta from Italy, an horse veterinarian with a big passion for arab language and Middle East .
Thank you Amin, go on

Cher Monsieur Maalouf,

Cordialement

Julien Grumbach

"Mektubumun ilk bolumunu Turkce yazmak istedim. Sonra Ingilizce olarak yazmaya da calisacagim. Yillardir kitaplarinizi okumaya hevesleniyordum ama icten ice korkuyordum. Cunku anlattiklariniz benim hikayem olmasa da, cok yakinimda gerceklesen olaylardi. Henuz 23 yasindayim, yani o lanet savas yillarini yasamadim.

Guzellikler sizinle olsun. Anadolu'dan sevgiler......."

"I wanted to write the first part of letter in Turkish. Then I will try to write in English too. I had been eager to read your books for years but I had fears deep inside. Because, although what you tell was not my story, they were the things that happened around this region, Anatolia. I am just 23 years old, so I had not come into world in those damned war years. Yet, Middle East is an unspeakable wound in my heart, as I believe with my whole heart that there is no reason not to live in brotherhood. And I know that I am not the only one in Turkey feeling these deeply. Unfortunately, people around this area still long to see the day they will sing the song of peace arm-in-arm.

I have just finished your book, named "Ports of Call", in a very short time. Crying in every words, knowing deeply that even in the happy memories there is certain grief coming... And wondering the real final of the story, like a passer by the road...

Your writing style is impressive. I hope I will have the chance to meet you someday in my life. And if that day comes, make sure that I will have read all of your books published.

All the best. From Anatolia with love..."

Cher Monsieur Maalouf,

Bien cordialement,

Dominique Scheder

I am very grateful to the reading of "Le dereglement du monde". You put my feelings, thoughts and ideas into words, and helped me think more about the present time and human being. Your books are a light in the darkness. For this I am grateful. I will read parts of them to my students in order to help them think about the present time.

Dear Mr Maalouf,

Once again, please accept my gratitude for your contribution to contemporary thought, esp. the idea of peopel living in peace and mutual understanding. Your book "Deadly Identities" (my translation) has been repeatedly refered to by my students and they have all loved it (greek version). Now it seems that we will be able to invite you and cover all expenses for you (& your wife) to visit us at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, during our conference "Language Crossroads" 8-10 April 2011. The Greek Minister of Culture, Mr Geroulanos, extends his wish to meet you in greece, as well. Please contact me and let me know if we will have the great honour to have you in Thessaloniki in April 2011 (tsokalid@nured.auth.gr)

Estimat Sr.

I'm a University student in Barcelona. I study Humanities and this semester I'm taking Social and Cultural Anthropology as one of my subjects. My teacher gave us a list of books to pick up one and I've chosen one of your books "Identitats que maten" in Catalan, my mother language. I've loved it!! I have really enjoyed reading your books and I felt so agree with you in everything you say. As a member of one of the nations that there are in the world with no land I was deeply touched with your words and I wish that one day in a near future Humanity will be able to understand that languages are part of our cultural background. Dialogue is just possible if we respect alterity and see it as a diversity rich fountain from where we all should drink of.

Felicitats!!

Eva
