What a great man Sheldon was! Very helpful to any cyclist, and especially to those who love the odd and obscure with wheels. And April 1st will not be the same without his humor.

His smile met me each time I reached into the encyclopedia of his bike world. I felt like the author of the volumes shared his thoughts with me. We were lucky to have his family and employer share him with us.

Ever since I went online, eons ago, I was aware, like every other cyclist I know, of Sheldon as The Oracle. Ask a question, and the first or second response would refer you to Sheldon's site, where you'd find a measured, humane, authoritative (and often very funny) response.
Then you'd be sucked into Sheldon's world, and mysteriously find yourself drawn to one of his multifarious enthusiasms, like fixed gear bikes or Gilbert and Sullivan.
It's a real pity to lose him so soon. I suspect he had little idea how many lives he touched.
Heartfelt condolences to Sheldon's family and friends.

A great loss; a cyclist with a superb sense of humour; an star with an international reputation; whenever my friends got heavy with me about cyling I would send them a link to one of Sheldons comic sites;

Sheldon will be greatly missed. He and I did a bit of correspondence over the years, and I got a small thrill when I found that he had linked to my website, mainly due to my page on the Raleigh Twenty. He was a tremendous fount of knowledge, and while defending his opinions on the newsgroups and lists he always had a great sense of humour. Definitely one of a kind!
